Student Testimonials

When I was a freshman, CAPISE was not established, and I felt very isolated and alone in my experience. CAPISE gave me a place to explore not only my cultural identity, but how my other identities inform and influence my experiences and time here at San Jose State. I feel more connected to myself, my peers, and my community.

Student Affairs does a great job of empowering students to be innovators and create your own path to success. And I think that the Student Affairs' Student Involvement department is the #1 resource for students on campus.

One of the best decisions I made while being a student at 菠菜网lol正规平台 is making the decision to be a Peer Educator for 3 years. I took on different roles to support and guide my fellow students. As an S.I. Leader for the first 2 years, I facilitated group tutoring sessions in Biology and Chemistry. These interactive sessions allowed my peers to grasp high-yield topics and enhance their academic success, which was very rewarding for me to witness. Thank you to Student Affairs and the Peer Connections team!

  • The Lucas College and Graduate School of Business at SJSU has been recognized as the No. 1 CSU business school and among the Top 100 undergraduate business schools nationwide in last week's Poets&Quants For Undergrads rankings!

"Being named the No.1 CSU business school and ranked among the Top 100 undergraduate business schools nationwide sends a strong message to prospective students and their families: you can get a world-class business education, with deep industry ties and strong career outcomes — all at a public university price point," says Dean Rangapriya (Priya) Kannan.

  • SJSU Associate Professor of Photography Binh Danh, ’02 BFA Photography, says that visiting national parks is especially meaningful to him as a Vietnamese American artist. Much of his recent work involves using 19th century daguerreotypes, a photographic process that involves creating images on silver plates, to capture iconic images of Yosemite or the Grand Canyon.

“For the viewer to see themselves with these great American landscapes, it brings up questions of identity, history and even nationalism,” he says, adding that visiting and experiencing national parks as a first-generation American helps him feel rooted in a sense of home. Daguerreotypes allow him to introduce places like Yosemite to fellow immigrants who may have a hard time picturing themselves in national parks, perhaps because they didn’t yet feel like the U.S. was “home.”

  • Interested in renewable energy? So are we! SJSU is delighted to announce our participation in the California Solar Canal Initiative, a research consortium of faculty from seven top California research universities aiming to tackle the problem of renewable energy by installing solar panels over water canals to reduce evaporation and generate clean energy.

SJSU’s contributions will be led by Dustin Mulvaney, professor of environmental studies.

“Our involvement in the project shows that our students and faculty are quickly becoming leaders in promoting the sustainability of energy and water systems to integrated sectors that are crucial to addressing climate change and human prosperity in California,” says Mulvaney, who initially wrote about solar canals as a “win-win” techno-ecological synergy in a paper in Nature Sustainability” in 2019.

  • The Student Journey (No Voiceover)

  • “Photography is about recording the past because you want someone in the future to remember it,” says SJSU Associate Professor of Photography Binh Danh, ’02 BFA Photography. “But for me, it’s also about the present moment, especially when you see yourself reflected back in a picture. As a result of the interesting negotiation between time and space within the photographic medium, you’re also projecting into the future.”

  • Congratulations to SJSU’s own Dustin Mulvaney, professor of environmental studies, who will be part of SJSU’s contribution to the California Solar Canal Initiative (CSCI), an innovative public-private partnership tackling the problem of renewable energy by installing solar panels over water canals to reduce evaporation and generate clean energy.

“SJSU’s involvement in the project shows that our students and faculty are quickly becoming leaders in promoting the sustainability of energy and water systems to integrated sectors that are crucial to addressing climate change and human prosperity in California,” says Mulvaney, who initially wrote about solar canals as a “win-win” techno-ecological synergy in a paper in Nature Sustainability” in 2019.

  • “I always wanted to explore space,” says Cesar Meza, a Skyline College student who transferred to SJSU in fall 2024. “I always wanted to see if there's life beyond Earth.”

So when he got the opportunity to apply for NASA’s ASPIRE internship program, which pairs students with NASA mentors for exo- and astrobiology projects, he thought, “I'll chuck my hat in the ring and see what happens.”

He loved his experience – for more on Meza’s adventures, as well as other SJSU students’ experiences with ASPIRE, check out the latest issue of #SJSUWSQ.
